The Department of Mathematics at King’s College London has a distinguished scientific tradition in pure and applied mathematics and statistics. Since its foundation in 1830, it has established a reputation as a world-leading centre for the research, undergraduate study and postgraduate study of mathematics.
Located in the heart of London, the department benefits from being close to cultural activities north and south of the river, near the legal and financial centres, and within easy reach of major transport links. The department attracts a diverse, international body of students and staff, providing a rich environment for research and study. It is home to over 50 internationally renowned academic staff and 18 researchers. The Department promotes a friendly and inclusive culture, running work-related and social events to bring staff and students together.
Research is organised into seven active research groups: Analysis, Disordered Systems, Financial Mathematics, Geometry, Number Theory, Statistics, and Theoretical Physics, and two research centres: Mathematical & Molecular Biomedicine and Probability, all regularly organising seminars and events.
Our broad education portfolio, influenced by the research interests and activities of our academic staff, includes three and four year BSc and MSci courses in Mathematics, as well as Mathematics with Management and Finance, and Mathematics with Statistics, with an optional pathway to study abroad. Postgraduate taught students can follow one of four MSc courses in Mathematics, Financial Mathematics, Complex Systems Modelling and Theoretical Physics, and postgraduate research students receive supervision and support from one of the seven departmental research groups.
