The Research MPhil/PhD and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) are both doctorates, and both last three years, but are quite different qualifications. The PhD is a research thesis, consisting of a series of research studies in an area of interest carried out under the supervision of two expert academics. The DClinPsy is a professional qualification to become a Clinical Psychologist, which consists of six 6-months clinical placements in the NHS under the supervision of a qualified psychologist for 3 days a week, and two days a week attending teaching and carrying out a service-related project, a systematic review, and an empirical project.

Qualification(s): DClinPsy

The three year full-time Health Care Professions Council approved and BPS accredited DClinPsy programme trains clinical psychologists who embody the scientist-practitioner ideal and will go on to become leaders in the NHS.
