Sanctuary Season 2024/25: Creative Collaboration Seed Fund Networking Event

 

King's Culture is launching a seed fund open to researchers from across King's College London, to enable development of a creative project with an artist. The scheme offers enhanced support for researchers at King’s to develop new collaborations to advance research enquiry and public engagement, and an opportunity for artists to reach new audiences.

Alongside the fund, we are holding this networking event for researchers & artists to learn more about the scheme.

About the Creative Collaboration Seed Fund

The Strand Campus public programme for 2024/25 will be focussed on Sanctuary, as an umbrella theme for a season of public facing activities across the academic year.

This seed fund will support the research and development phase of approximately 10 collaborative projects between a King’s researcher and a creative practitioner/artist, which are aligned to the Sanctuary theme. Of these, we expect that at least five projects will involve Early Career Researchers as academic leads.

£2000 per project is available for a research and development phase in the summer term of 2024 (May – July).

It is anticipated that the bulk of the funding will be used to pay for the artist’s time, though can also be used to cover some other project related costs such as materials, workshops etc.

Applications to the seed fund will be assessed on:

• rationale for wishing to develop a creative collaboration
• alignment with the Sanctuary theme, from any angle
• potential for innovative ideas and outputs to emerge
• connection to King’s research and potential to support research impact

Towards the end of the R&D phase, projects can choose to pitch for further funding for a production phase from autumn 2024 to spring 2025, to produce a creative output that will be featured as part of the Sanctuary public programme at Strand campus in spring 2025. Exact dates and level of funding to be confirmed.

Researchers at all career stages are eligible to apply. PhD student applications require a strong connection to their doctoral research and sign off from the PhD supervisor.
We aim to support a range of proposals from across King's College London faculties.

The scheme is open to any UK-based artist/creative practitioner working in any medium, though is most likely to appeal to emerging artists with an interest in collaborating with a researcher.

Successful applicants will be notified in late April and will have until 31 July 2024 to work with their creative partner on the R&D phase of their project.

 

Because this seed fund is supporting projects with a trajectory towards public facing outputs, collaborators are encouraged at an early stage to consider their target audience alongside the aims and objectives of their project.
